The director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Suleiman Kazaure, has said that the increment of allowances for corps members will be considered as soon as the minimum wage increment was approved.

Daily Trust reports that Kazaure stated this on Fariday, March 29, in Abuja during the swearing-in ceremony of 3,022 Batch A corps members into the FCT orientation camp.

The NYSC DG said all hope was not lost as the scheme was waiting for the federal government to sign the minimum wage into law.

He urged the newly sworn in corps members to conduct themselves properly while in camp and shun drug abuse.

The NYSC boss advised them to remain patriotic when they are posted to their communities of primary assignments and ensure that they make impacts in their host communities.

Declaring the orientation camp exercise open, the minister of the FCT, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, who was represented by the director of administration and finance of the Ministry, Hajiya Safiya Umar, also urged the new batch of corps members to be hard working.

He drew their attention to the NYSC reward system where special contributions, hard work and excellence by corps members are recognised and honoured accordingly.

He also urged them to tap into the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) programme carried out by the scheme to train corps members on various skills that will help them become entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that two ex-corp members built six toilets and one septic tank for the community where they served.

The former NYSC members identified as Onajite Solomon and Israel Victor were both members of the Batch A, Stream 1 of 2017 and had completed their service in April, 2018.

They, however, remained committed to completing the project which they had started.
