"I know that it is a difficult decision, but it can be the best thing for my career,” Coutinho was quoted as saying by Sport to his Selecao pals during the just-concluded international break.

The Brazilian further explained that it will be a tougher task to be the best in the world with Lionel Messi in the same team.

The 26-year-old is expected to tell club’s chiefs in April that he will be leaving in the summer.

Coutinho was urged by Barca teammate Gerard Pique not to give up easily last month.

"Come on Phil, you're not plugged in," Pique shouted at Coutinho after losing the ball during a training session.

Explaining later Pique said "Obviously his cost was very high so that means there are more expectations of his performance level. It is what it is.

"We have to accept the reaction of the fans because they are our followers but from the inside, we have to give him our support. We need him at his best for the end of the season and I'm sure he will be,” he summed up.

Earlier, reported that Barcelona are reportedly interested in selling Philippe Coutinho for the right offer for his services.

The 26-year-old joined the Catalans in a six year deal valued around £142 million in the winter of 2018 but has not been able to live up to his billings at the Camp Nou. ( -> We have updated to serve you better
