Samuel Umtiti of Barcelona emerges as summer target for Arsenal

Premier League giants Arsenal have reportedly contacted Spanish side Barcelona over the possibility of signing France international Samuel Umtiti this summer.

Arsenal want to bolster their squad at the end of the season and Gunners have identified defender Samuel Umtiti as a target.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Gunners' chief Raul Sanllehi has opened talks with Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal over a summer deal.

In September 2018, Samuel Umtiti suffered a knee injury and returned back to action in February this year in which he has only played two games for Barcelona since then.

But last summer, the 25-year-old signed a five-year deal with Barcelona with an astronomical release clause of €500 million.

It is not yet clear if Arsenal will be able to meet up with Barcelona's release clause for Samuel Umtiti when the ongoing season comes to an end.

Since joining reigning Spanish champions Barcelona, Samuel Umtiti has won La Liga and two Copa del Rey during his time at the Nou Camp.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Barcelona directors reportedly told star defender Samuel Umtiti that he is free to leave the club at the end of the ongoing La Liga season if he wants to.

Samuel Umtiti has been impressive for Barcelona helping the Catalan giants win the 2017/18 Spanish La Liga title.

The 25-year-old defender has emerged as a summer transfer target for Manchester United and Real Madrid.
