- Sergio Ramos has been backed to win the Ballon d'Or award
- Former Real Madrid star Luis Figo tipped the Spaniard to win the prestigious award
- Luka Modric beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Griezmann to win the 2018 edition of the prize
Former Real Madrid midfielder Luis Figo has insisted that Sergio Ramos deserves to win the Ballon d'Or award.
The 46-year-old won the award in 2000 shortly after joining Los Blancos from arch rival Barcelona the same year.
Figo spent five years at the Santiago Bernabeu and won two Spanish League titles during his reign at the club.
Luka Modric won the 2018 edition of the individual prize - beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann to the award.
But the former Inter Milan star believes Ramos, who was instrumental to Real's three consecutive Champions League triumphs deserves to win the prize.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were dominant on the world stage - winning five Ballon d'Or awards each.
Figo further stated that it is difficult for a defender to win the prize, but the former midfielder insists Ramos can follow the likes of Fabio Cannavaro by winning the award.

"It's clear that Sergio Ramos deserves to win the Ballon d'Or," Figo told Marca, although not specifically mentioning that he meant for 2018.
"Being a defender is almost like being a goalkeeper, it's a lot more difficult to win the award but (Fabio) Cannavaro managed it (when Italy won the World Cup in 2006).
Sergio Ramos joined Real Madrid from Sevilla in 2005, and has scored 59 goals in 417 topflight appearances in the process.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Sergio Ramos took to his Twitter handle to set the record straight if he will still playing for Real Madrid next season following argument with president Florentino Perez.
A couple of Spanish news media outlets claim Perez slammed the Real captain for their disgraceful outing in the Champions League against Ajax.
It is understood that the Spain international reportedly responded to Perez that his summer recruitment was embarrassing which the president replied: "I'll sack you".
