Oshiomhole reacts to Ifeanyi Ubah's alleged defection to APC

The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has reacted to the alleged defection of Chief Ifeanyi Ubah from the the Young Progressive Party (YPP) to the APC.

In his opening remarks at the dinner hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari for all the party’s senators and senators-elect at the Presidential Villa Abuja, the APC national chairman described Ubah as a smart guy for joining the APC, adding that other formalities would be done later, Vanguard reports.

Oshiomhole noted that the ruling party has already about 65 senators-elect and 223 House of Representatives members out of the 360, adding that it has close to two third of members which would make them make decisions they would want to make.

He also expressed optimism that the APC will reclaim Sokoto state.

“By the special grace of God, we will win Sokoto state because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) changed the rules of the game,” Oshimohole was quoted to have said.

The APC chairman also said that the party would not allow the opposition to hijack ‘juicy’ committee leadership in the national assembly.

He told President Buhari that the essence of the dinner was to plan on how to manage leadership of the national assembly to ensure that there would be no business with the opposition this time around.

Meanwhile, former Senate leader, Senator Ali Ndume, on Monday, March 25, formally wrote the national leadership of the APC about his intention to vie for the office of Senate president when the 9th Senate is inaugurated in June.

In a two-page letter dated Monday, March 25 addressed to Oshiomhole, Ndume announced his intention to run for the office and sought the blessing of the party to contest for the position.

The senator representing Borno south senatorial district, said he is throwing his hat into the ring believing that the Senate president position would be zoned to the north-east geo-political zone where he hails from.

According to him, the decision to seek election into the exalted office was borne out of his desire to help accelerate socioeconomic development of the nation.
