- Chris Powell has been sacked by his League One side Southend United FC
- The 49-year-old has failed to record a win in his last 11 matches for the club
- In a bid to avoid relegating at the end of the season, the club decided to fire the tactician
English league One side Southend United FC have sacked their manager Chris Powell following his failure to record a win in his last eleven matches.
The Seasiders are currently 20th on the log with 42 points after 39 matches - just one step above relegation zone with about seven more matches to wrap up the season.
According to the statement released by the club, they are hoping they can turn situation around and escape relegation.
"The results over a number of weeks, 11 games without a win, has impacted all concerned and immediate changes needed to be made.
"The club's interests are paramount, but the board are nevertheless disappointed to see Chris leave."
In the meantime, academy coach Ricky Duncan has been appointed manager on interim basis until they find replacement.
Powell took over at Roots Hall Arena in January 2018 but his recent poor run of form forced his employers to pull the plug on his employment at the club.
The former England defender spent six years as a player at Southend between 1990 and 1996 and returned just last year to succeed Phil Brown.
Southend last recorded their victory in the league on January 19 when they thrashed Bradford City 4-0.
At the end of his first season at the club, Powell guided his side to finished tenth on the log, and was in the same spot before the 11-game winless run ended his reign at the club.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Newcastle United have parted ways with their youth team manager Peter Beardsley after being accused of racism and bullying.
The club was said to have launched an investigation into the matter while away on leave having denied the claims earlier.
Following the outcome of the examination, the Magpies announced that they have relieved the 58-year-old of his duties at the club.
