Your experience at National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp will be greatly defined by the things you take along. If you are one of the new set of corp members preparing for the 2019 Batch A stream I orientation camp, then it is important you know the recommended things to go with.
Before we go into them, these first four items are highly important than others:
1. The official call-up letter
You must have copies of this so that you can be properly documented in camp.
2. Recent passport photographs
These too are very important as there would be instances when you would need it during your stay in camp.
3. School certificate/statement of result
This is also another document that you must take along. You will need them especially for registration in the camp.
4. Student ID
Please go along with this too. However, in the case that your school collected yours as a requirement for issuing certificates, then the school certificate could also serve as an alternative to the ID. Just tell them your school collected yours when giving you the certificate.
Below are other things not to miss:
5. Waist pouch
You will need this to hold all your mobile belongings like money, ID card, phone and power bank. You will not understand this until you get to camp.
6. Power bank
This here is very important. There are no sockets in most camp hostels and you may have to rely on phone chargers at mami. It is safer to charge your power bank than give them your phone to help you charge.
7. Bed sheet, pillow case and sleeping socks
You will need this for sleeping as they make your night comfortable.
8. Toothpaste, tooth brush, bathing soap
Do not even try forgetting this. Your camp experience will be totally ruined if you do.
9. Detergents and clothes clips
You will need these to wash your white laundries.
10. Extra white tennis, shorts and shirts
Though NYSC could would giving you these, but go with those. They will serve as alternatives so you do not have to always do wash-and-wear daily.
11. Beverages (milk, tea) and groundnuts
This is another way you could comfort yourself after a hard day of military regime.
12. Towel, handkerchiefs, deodorants, slippers
Those will make use you maintain a high level of hygiene in camp
13. Plate, spoon, cup
Make sure all these are plastic as you would not be allowed to bring them if they are metal.
14. Bucket and bowl popularly known as bailer
Please do not be that person who forgets going with these.
Go with Money too! You will need it! Most camps do not have ATMs.
