Seyi Makinde, the Oyo state governor-elect, has said he is determined to review all contracts including the alleged N30 billion contract that was awarded in two weeks by the outgoing government of Abiola Ajimobi.
He said he would closely examine the hurriedly awarded contract when he officially comes into government on Wednesday, May 29, Vanguard reports.
Makinde said this in a statement released by his director on media, Prince Dotun Oyelade.
He said that the recent awarded contract seems like a move to cash out money from the government’s purse before the new administration comes in.
On the other hand, Ajimobi has through his special adviser on communication strategy, Bolaji Tunji, said he will not back down on making life better for all the people of the state.
He, therefore, asked why awarding a contract should be an issue for the incoming government even when the present one still has political power to rule until swearing in.
He said: “Governor Ajimobi would never be cowed by anyone to make people of the state his priority in the discharge of his duties. If the contracts are for the betterment of the people, Governor Ajimobi would never hesitate to award it.
“Whatever anyone says will not stop this administration from discharging its duties to people of the state till May 29. We are doing what we should do as an administration. Why would anyone be saying we are awarding contracts? Is that not the hallmark of a government?”
The governor-elect also said he would probe any civil servant found culpable in awarding the contract.
