Plateau poll: PDP's Useni rejects INEC result, Lalong's victory, heads to court

- The declared results of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Plateau has been described as unacceptable by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

- Senator Jeremiah Useni, the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, has rejected the victory of Governor Simon Lalong

- He said that he has rallied his team of lawyers to begin process to contest INEC's position in tribunal

The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Jeremiah Useni, has rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s declaration of Governor Simon Lalong as the winner of the election.

Following this, Senator Useni has rallied his legal team to begin the legal process to contest INEC's position in the election tribunal, Tribune reports.

Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, March 24, Useni said: “My team and I have gone through both the official results released by INEC and the documents submitted by our field staff.

"We have every reason to believe that justice has not been done to our people in this election, because there was massive rigging and electoral shortcomings.”

According to the senator, consultations and investigation show that INEC's was not acceptable to the PDP in the state.

He added: “I give you may word that I will pursue this matter diligently and by the grace of God, we will overturn and recover the peoples mandate. The restoration agenda is for the soul of Plateau State, until its glory is restored.”

Although the senator said that the development is a set back, he urged party members to remain poised and fixed on the fight to reclaim its mandate.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Lalong was declared winner of the rerun gubernatorial election in the state.

Lalong gathered 595,582 votes to win, with his closest rival, Jeremiah Useni, a retired Army General who was the candidate of the PDP, polling 546,813 votes.
