Ex-agitators hail FG over prompt payment of stipends

- Federal government has been commended for the prompt payment of former agitators of the Niger Delta region monthly stipends

- Ex-militants under the aegis of Justice Group recently urged President Buhari to include them in the amnesty programme

- The 3,000 undocumented ex-agitators alleged that they were marginalised by past leadership of the amnesty office and the government

Former agitators of the Niger Delta region have hailed the federal government for the prompt payment of their monthly stipends.

General Godstime Ogidigba, coordinator of the phase three of the ex-Niger Delta agitators’ leadership forum, gave the commendation in a statement in Benin on Sunday, March 24.

The coordinator said the forum had decided to confer an award of good leadership on Charles Dokubo, special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta and coordinator, amnesty programme.

He said the recognition was informed by the prompt payment of monthly stipends and empowerment of Niger Delta youths among other strides of Dokubo.

Ogidigba said the group noted that the sanity now being enjoyed in the phase two of the amnesty programme was commendable and urged the coordinator to sustain the stride.

He expressed the commitment to continue to partner and support the positive effort of the amnesty office to bring peace and development to the region.

Legit.ng previously reported that ex-militants under the aegis of justice group, urged President Buhari to prevail on the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Charles Dokubo, to integrate them into the programme.

The 3,000 undocumented ex-agitators alleged that they were marginalised by past leadership of the amnesty office and the federal government.

In the letter written on their behalf by their solicitor, R. Inabowa, they said: “Recently, few executive members of the Justice Group met with the special assistant to the president on Niger Delta with the assurance that in a few weeks, he will ensure that we are included in the scheme.''
