Lady calls out Nigerian police after her sister was arrested for wearing tinted dreadlocks

A young Nigerian lady has called out the Nigerian police on popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, after her sister was arrested. The lady had narrated that her sister was arrested for wearing dreadlocks and tinted hair.

The lady identified simply as Oyindamola claimed that her sister, who is a first year student at the University of Lagos state, was arrested at the school gate alongside other students who had dreadlocks, tinted hair or both.

According to Oyindamola, the Gbagada anti-cult unit had carried out the arrest. Oyindamola recounted that her sister was arrested on Thursday, March 21, in the afternoon.

Oyindamola also revealed that her sister was taken to Charly boy station and forced to pay five thousand naira with the threat of being charged to court. She said the students' phones were taken away and their identity cards were also broken.

She said: "Hello @POLICENG_CRU Gbagada anti-cult unit is arresting students from Unilag gate because they have dreadlocks & tinted hair. My sister was arrested yesterday afternoon, taken to the station at Charly boy and forced to pay 5k or she'd be charged to court today. Please help! RT."

The lady also explained that her sister just started lectures as a first year student few weeks ago. She stated that her sister was trying to get transport to go back home after lectures when she was arrested.

Oyindamola added: "She's a first year student and just started lectures a few weeks ago. She was trying to get transport home after lectures when she was unduly harassed and traumatized by these officers for no other reason than her tinted hair. The students phones were seized and their IDs broken."
