LIVE: Nigeria 3-1 Seychelles (FT) AFCON 2019 qualifier

Nigeria take on Seychelles at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba in their last Group E match for Egypt 2019.

The Super Eagles have already booked their place in the penultimate match against South Africa, but who tops the group is still up for grabs.

Nigeria defeated Seychelles in the first leg 3-0 and the second leg on home soil is supposed to be a walkover for the three-time African champions.

Seychelles on the other hand, will have nothing to lose as they will looking to get a least a draw against the star-studded Nigerian side.

Nigeria wins their first corner after building up patiently. Troost-Ekong with a header but he could not generate enough power on the ball as the keeper makes an easy catch.

Alex Iwobi wins a free kick in the midfield after he was held back by an opponent. Ahmed Musa almost got onto the ball after a miscommunication from the Seychelles keeper and his defender, but the ball was cleared.

All men from Seychelles are behind the ball as Kenneth Omeruo wins a free kick. Etebo lifts the free kick but Ndidi's header does not threaten the goalkeeper.

Etebo leans over to take a dangerous free kick just outside the box, but his shot was too high as the ball goes for a Seychelles' goal kick.

The scoreline still at 0-0 but Gernot Rohr's team have enjoyed better possession between the two sides.

16’ — Etebo blazes his shot over

Etebo was nicely set up by Henry Onyekuru but he could not keep his shot down as the ball goes over the bar.

18’ — Nigeria lacking in the final third

The Super Eagles have not been able to get a final through ball into the Seychelles' defence. A tricky free kick from Seychelles but was tipped over for a corner.

22’ — Another chance for Etebo

Nice build up from a corner as Musa finds Ndidi who gives the on rushing Etebo, but again, the Stoke City attacker could not keep his shot down.

24’ — Chance!

Ndidi makes a delicious run into the box as his faint shot falls kindly for Igahlo who tried to control but the ball slips out of his reach and goes straight into the hands of the goalkeeper.

28’ — Seychelles wins second corner

Out of nothing Seychelles win a corner. Corner taken but the ball goes straight into the hands of Uzoho.

30’ — Iwobi's number 10 role not working

Iwobi is finding it hard to connect a pass into the attack as the Pirates are defending in sixes and sevens, leaving no space for the Arsenal star.

33’ — Penalty

Ndidi was adjudged to have fouled Karl Hall in the box as the referee points to the spot for a penalty to Nigeria.


Igahlo steps up and sends the keeper the wrong way. It's his seventh goal in the AFCON qualifiers making him the highest scorer in Africa.

Ahmed Musa is brought down very close in the 18-yard box. as Etebo and Troost-Ekong surround the ball.

A brilliant save from the goalkeeper as Nigeria win a corner. Corner taken but well defended by Seychelles.


Seychelles equalizes. Randy Melanie pounces on an Uzoho's error to tap into an empty net to make it 1-1.

Uzoho fails to handle the ball properly and gifts it to Melanie as the ball was slammed into an empty net.

Igahlo twists and turns in the box but his shot comes against the post for a goal kick.

Seychelles begin the second half playing from right to left as the Pirates launch a long ball into the Nigerian half.

47’ — Super Eagles take charge

Shehu Abdulahi sends a cross into the box to find Ighalo but a defensive clearance from Seychelles saves the day.


Henry Onyerkuru restores the lead for Nigeria. Jamilu Collins delivers a pin-point cross to the Besiktas forward who heads home. Nigeria 2-1 Seychelles.

The Nigerian side are putting more pressure on their opponents as Iwobi, Musa, Onyekuru trying to find a way in.

Nigeria are still ahead and enjoy more of the possession.

The Pirates are defending all through the game not giving the Nigeria chance space in front of the box.

Onyekuru flashes another header across goal but that did not disturb the keeper.


Moses Simon rifles in a shot to make it 3-1 to Nigeria. The Levante winger wriggles his way into the box an applies a cool finish. It's his first goal since returning to the national team.

The referee blows the final whistle as the match ends in favour of the Super Eagles by 3-1.
