However, renowned sports-kit manufacturers Adidas, who doubles as De Gea and Man United sponsors informed Connor they had "something for him."

And at the end the Connor family had a package delivered at a neighbour's house.

Surprisingly, after opening the gift box, Connor discovered a framed match-worn boots from De Gea's decent display against Tottenham in January at Wembley.

The encounter saw the 28-year-old Spaniard perform top-class saves in a slim win, with over 11 saves, four of them coming off his feet – which is a Premier League milestone this term.

Interestingly, De Gea bought the idea to frame the boots from Sky Sports commentator Martin Taylor, who suggested the Spanish shot-stopper try it out.

In a tweet in January, De Gea. applauded the suggestion after posting an image of the boots on social media with a short message: "Thanks for the framing idea, Martin!

"Was that the most saves made with feet in a game?"

In addition, a letter from De Gea to Connor read: "Hi Connor, I recently read the tweet your dad sent me in your new goalkeeper kit and boots.

"To say thank you for your fantastic support, I've arranged a little present which I hope you like.

"There's more to being a goalkeeper than just using your hands.

"I hope to see you at Old Trafford soon!

"All the best, David De Gea."

Reacting moments later Connor, a die-hard Man United fan whose best player is De Dea, said the Spaniard is: "The best goalkeeper Manchester United have ever had."

And his mum Lindsay "couldn’t believe his eyes when he opened the box and made his daddy put them on the wall straight away."
