An operative of DSS and three other persons have been arrested by the police for alleged involvement in the kidnapping of two brothers.
The Sun reports that the suspects were said to have kidnapped Robert Bassey and his brother a few days ago, claiming they had unfinished business with the duo.
Legit.ng gathered that while parading the suspects in Calabar on Thursday, March 21, the Cross River state commissioner of police, Austin Agbolahor, said that the suspects took hostage of Robert Bassey and his brother at Atimbo axis of the Calabar metropolis claiming that Robert was owing them some money.
Represented by the police public relations officer, Irene Ugbo, he said the suspects were apprehended by the police, following a distress call from a good Samaritan.
According to him, the police anti-cultism and kidnapping squad swung into action and surrounded the suspects up.
Denying allegation that he was a kidnapper, Eyo Bassey, who claimed to be an operative of the DSS, said: ''I am not a kidnapper but was called in by my friend to assist him to retrieve some money which he gave to Mr. Robert Bassey to facilitate an admission at the University of Calabar (UNICAL)."
Also denying, Eyo Edet, 36, said: “The police apprehended us while trying to retrieve the N218,000 which two of the suspects gave to Mr. Robert Bassey to help secure admission for his two friends into the University of Calabar.
“We are not kidnappers but we only wanted to get the money which Robert collected from us.
“I'm a staff of Calabar municipal council, in Cross River state. I don’t know anything concerning kidnapping as alleged by our accusers.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Directorate of State Service (DSS) in Taraba state arrested and paraded three suspects with over 300 permanent voters cards (PVCs).
