Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat, 40 lawmakers to receive certificates of return on March 27

- The Lagos branch of the INEC has said it will present the certificate of return to governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat on March 27

- The electoral commission also said that it would give same certificates to lawmakers in the state

- All invited guests are to be seated by 10:30 am and 1:30 pm respectively for both ceremonies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Lagos, has said it will on Wednesday, March 27, present certificates of return to the state governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

Sam Olumekun, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, said on Thursday, March 21, that the lawmakers-elect of the Lagos state House of Assembly would also be given certificates of return the same day, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“The presentation of certificate of return to elected candidates is in conformity with Section 75 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

“The presentation ceremony will take place at INEC Lagos office, 6 Birrel Avenue, Sabo-Yaba, at 11:00 am for the governor-elect and his deputy.

“Meanwhile, that of the elected members of Lagos State House of Assembly will come up at 2:00pm," Olumekun said in a statement.

According to him, all invited guests are requested to be seated by 10:30 am and 1:30 pm respectively for the two ceremonies.

Sanwo-Olu of the APC polled 739,445 votes to defeat Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 206,141 votes, and other contestants in the March 9 governorship election.

For Agbaje, the margin of loss was higher than what he recorded in 2015, when he lost to outgoing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

INEC declared Sanwo-Olu winner of the poll on March 10.

The commission will on Saturday, March 23, hold a supplementary election in the Ibeju-Lekki State Constituency I where the state assembly election was declared inconclusive.

Candidates of the APC won in all the other 39 constituencies where state assembly elections are already concluded by the electoral umpire.
