- Jimi Agbaje, Lagos state PDP governorship candidate, said no one would force him to quit the party
- Agbaje attributed insinuations that he has defected from PDP to mischief-makers determined to soil his reputation and provoke crisis within the party
- According to the governorship candidate, despite the campaign of calumny being waged against him in the media by a few leaders, he remains in the party
The Lagos state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2019 governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, has called on members of the public to discard reports that he has quit the party.
Agbaje, in a statement by his spokesperson, Modupe Ogunbayo, stated that he remained a member of the PDP, The Nation reports.
The statement read: “In the past 24 hours, Olujimi Agbaje, governorship candidate of the PDP in the recently-concluded 2019 election in Lagos state, received uncountable calls and messages from numerous friends, teeming political associates within PDP and countless members of his supporters, that he has resigned from the PDP.
“It is another chunk from the ongoing propaganda and disinformation machinery of his foes. Agbaje urges all to treat the rumour with the disdain it wisely deserves."
Agbaje said claims by Chief Layi Ogunbambi, of being denied funds as director-general of Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council in Lagos state amounted to attempting to build something on nothing.
"For starters, the position he lays claim gives him no locus standi as no such formal position existed in the entire campaign structure of PDP in Lagos or any of the other 35 states," he stated.

Also, Agbaje pointed out that the man who paraded himself as the DG of the Atiku/Obi Presidential Campaign Council, had his wife, Oluwatoyin Ogunbambi, contesting as gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state against PDP on another party platform.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a former chairman of the PDP in Lagos state, Tunji Shelle, attributed the loss of the party in the state governorship election to the APC to its governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje.
Reacting to the humiliating defeat of the party, Shelle alleged that Agbaje’s inability to foster unity among aggrieved groups within the opposition party was responsible for PDP’s slim chance in the March 9 Lagos guber election.
Shelle also vowed that Agbaje, a pharmacist turned politician, will never fly the flag of Lagos PDP again because of his lack of leadership charisma to accommodate differences within the party.
