The All Progressives Congress in ward 01 Oredo local government area of Edo state has suspended Charles Airhiavbere for alleged anti-party activities during the conduct of the 2019 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Nation reports that Airhiavbere, former APC governorship aspirant, was suspended at an enlarged meeting of the party where the report of a panel set up to investigate him was upheld.
In a statement signed by APC ward 01 executive, the party said: “Based on General Airhiavbere unpardonable actions against the APC and coupled with hard evidence against him.
"We, the executive of Oredo Ward 01 moved a vote of no confidence on him.' He is thereby suspended from the APC with immediate effect."
Among the allegations levelled against him were that he deliberately withheld tags and other party tools meant for agents and APC faithful thereby hindering their work during the elections.
He was also accused of canvassing votes for PDP during the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Airhiavbere in his reaction said the suspension was a ploy to stop him from contesting for the APC ticket against Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He said he would still contest for the governorship under the APC adding that he was not the only party chieftain in the state that lost in his polling unit and ward and local government.
Legit.ng previously reported that Edo state governor, Obaseki, is said to have started making moves to deal with some leaders of the APC whose activities led to the defeat of the party in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.
The government sources said what peeved Obaseki was the wide margin of defeat recorded in Egor, Ikpoba-Okha and Oredo local government areas in Edo south senatorial district.
Obaseki, who hails from Oredo in Edo south senatorial district, was said to have issued the threat at a meeting with APC leaders.
