Real Madrid enjoyed a winning start in Zinedine Zidane second spell as Los Blancos boss with a 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday, March 16, at Santiago Bernabeu.
The encounter saw Celta Vigo came close to netting the opener after Pione Sisto pass found Maxi Gomez, but his header could not beat Keylor Navas, who was spot on to push the ball over the crossbar.
In the 27th minute Real Madrid had their own chance after Toni Kroos powerful strike from about 25-yard hit the crossbar.
Karim Benzema was the next Real player to miss from an overhead kick but Gareth Bale followed up with volley which could only hit woodwork before Nestor Araujo cleared the danger.
Celta had a chance from a counter-attack but Sergio Ramos was spot on to block shot away from danger.
Moments later, Ramos almost headed Los Blancos into the lead from a Kroos' corner, but his header missed target
Real Madrid players thought they have the lead through Luka Modric in the 60th minute after Celta failed to clear a corner.
Modric did not make contact with the ball, but it passed through a crowd of players before resting in the net.
But after the referee consulted VAT the goal was cancelled as Raphael Varane was appeared to be offside position while blocking the goalkeeper’s view.
But two minutes later, Isco netted the opener in Zidane's second tenure.
It was a fast counter-attack with Benzema making a decent run before setting the ball for Isco to tap in from close range.
The Los Blancos took over the contest after the goal and in the 77th minute Bale netted the second.
Celta allowed Bale space and the Welshman didn’t think twice before hitting his shot which bounced off inside of the woodwork into the net.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has dropped goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the club's Spanish La Liga game against Celta Vigo.
Forward Gareth Bale also made a return to the first team in what will be Zinedine Zidane's first game since he returned to the Santiago Bernabeu.
