PDP trying really hard to destroy democracy in the country - Presidency

- The presidency has condemned the PDP for trying to upset the country's democracy

- The presidency said the PDP has been doing so after losing out in the just concluded February 23 presidency election

- The opposition party was also said to have accused the ruling party of planning to rig the forthcoming supplementary elections

The presidency on Thursday night, March 14, condemned its main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying that the party has been trying so hard to upturn democracy in the country since it lost out in the last election.

The comment of the presidency came on the development that the PDP has been accusing the APC of planning to cause violence in Taraba state so that a state of emergency could be declared, Vanguard reports.

The PDP also said the ruling party is also working on rigging the supplementary election in Sokoto through the use of the military to intimidate voters.

In reaction to the allegations, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, based the PDP's allegation on their electoral loss.

In his words: “I don’t think we will comment. Since they suffered the biggest election loss in all presidential elections in the Fourth Republic, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been doing everything they can to damage the foundation of the country’s struggling democracy.

“If they are not in power, in the states or at the center, they will use all means to spread instability. In President Buhari, they have met their match."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported Buhari and the APC were granted access by the election petition tribunal to inspect the materials used for the February 23 presidential poll.

It was reported that Buhari and the ruling party applied in separate motions for ex parte orders to be granted to them to inspect the materials.

Legit.ng also gathered that the applications were made in preparation of its defence team against expected petitions to be filed by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the outcome of the election.
