Kwara governor-elect’s certificate case: Adekunle alleges threat to his life

- Abraham Adekunle alleges that his life is being threatened for challenging the certificates of the Kwara governor-elect in court

- Adekunle claims he is under pressure from community and religious leaders, relations and friends to drop the case

- The activist claims nobody influenced his decision to go to court against the governor-elect

An activist, Abraham Adekunle, is alleging threat to his life for challenging the authenticity of the WAEC certificate of the Kwara state governor-elect, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in a court.

Daily Independent reports that Adekunle spoke with journalists in Ilorin, the capital of the state on Thursday, March 14, claiming that some unknown people were threatening him.

Adekunle claimed he was not influenced by anybody to challenge the APC governor-elect’s certificate, but that his decision was based on personal conviction.

He said he had continued to receive text messages from persons he did not know just as he had been under pressure from community and religious leaders, friends and relations to withdraw the case.

“Instead of being celebrated as a whistle-blower, I’m here being castigated by my community. And I don’t see any reason this action should be treated in isolation because there are other cases before this in this country, which did not attract much attention.

“Yes, I’m a member of the PDP, but I’m not holding forte for my party or my community. Nobody is sponsoring me. And I hope I deserve national honour for this action of mine.

“If we say we are fighting corruption and are still perpetuating corruption, it means double talk,” he said.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Sunday, March 10, declared that the people of the state had been freed from bondage and socioeconomic stagnation.

Abdulrazaq dedicated his victory to the glory of God and to all the people of the state.

He said: "We give Almighty God all the glory. We dedicate this victory to the people of Kwara state, home and abroad, who stood resolutely to see through the democratic revolution that started many years ago."

The governor of Kwara state, Abdulfatah Ahmed, recently congratulated Alhaji Abdulrasak Abdulrahman after he was declared the winner of the governorship election held on Saturday, March 9.

Governor Ahmed declared that Abdulrasak’s emergence is a manifestation of Kwarans’ resolve to give democracy a chance and allow another leadership to serve them.
