The Canadian government has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election in the just concluded presidential election that was held on Saturday, February 23.
The government of Canada sent the message through the country’s high commissioner to Nigeria, saying they look forward to developing their collaboration with the president and its administration.
Canada said it gathered from reports from local and international observers that despite the irregularities that surrounded the elections, the overall outcome was certified credible.
Above all, the international government also said that it has noted the significance of strengthening good democratic practices in the re-run elections that would be coming up in states with inconclusive elections.
It also added that free and fair elections are important to democracy and that it remain committed in support of rule of law in the country.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the British prime minister, Theresa May, congratulated Buhari on the outcome of the just concluded 2019 presidential election that made him accomplish his second term bid in office.
May sent the congratulatory message to President Buhari in a tweet posted on her Twitter handle, @10DowningStreet, on Wednesday, February 27.
According to UK prime minister, she witnessed first-hand the importance of the UK-Nigeria relationship during her trip last year. She said she looked forward to continuing the close partnership and strengthening the shared prosperity and security.
