The Nigerian Navy on Friday, March 15, commissioned the Maritime Domain Awareness Training School in Apapa, Lagos state.
The commissioning ceremony of the school equipped by the United States Navy and the multinational maritime exercise, Obangame Express 2019 was attended by senior leaders from the US Africa Command, representatives of maritime forces from the Gulf of Guinea, Europe, North and South America, regional and international groups.
The school was commissioned by Consul General Bray, Rear Admiral Heidi Berg, and the Nigerian Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibas.
Obangame Express is a strategy by the US Africa command and US Naval Forces, Europe-Africa to provide collaborative opportunities among African forces and international partners that address maritime security concerns. The exercise, hosted by the Nigerian Navy, will run from Thursday, March 14 to Friday, March 22.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Navy had commenced the recruitment of interested Nigerians into the service for the year 2019.
The Navy director of information, Commodore Suleman Dahun, announced this in a statement on Sunday, January 29, in Abuja. He said interested members of the public are requested to apply online at www.joinnigeriannavy.com .
Dahun said applicants must possess a minimum of five credits in not more than two sittings in WASSCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB (English and Mathematics inclusive).
