A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state, Waheed Ajadi, has advised the governor-elect, Seyi Makinde, to learn from the political blunders of Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his predecessor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Legit.ng regional reporter in Oyo, Imran Khalid, reports that while speaking in Okeho, Kajola local government area of the state on the emergence of Makinde as the new governor, Ajadi, advised the governor-elect to learn from the factors that led to the outright rejection of Ajimobi and Alao-Akala by the people of of the state at the polls.
The PDP chieftain said that Akala's administration stood out among the others as he embarked on developmental programmes and projects that improved the state's inhabitants standard of living.
He noted that though Akala was admired by the people of state owing to his style of governance, he said he later became autocratic and dictatorial along the line, adding that the state became state of lawlessness where hoodlums and National Union of Road and Transport Workers (NURTW) were doing as like to make people live in fear.
Ajadi also said that Ajimobi of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) defeated Akala who was the PDP's governorship candidate in 2011, as he engaged on issue-based campaigns and came on board on a note of humility and impeccable character.
He noted that on assumption of office in 29th May, 2011, Ajimobi began programmes and implementation of projects that made the state wear a new outlook and most importantly he engaged in urban renewal that made Ibadan that was earlier considered as the dirtiest city in southwest to wear a befitting outlook.
The PDP chieftain, however, said that Ajimobi's problem started with arrogance and reckless speech, having won the second tenure as the executive governor that none of his predecessors ever achieved.
He added that his (Ajimobi)'s arrogance and autocracy warranted introduction of policies that were inimical to people's standard of living, stressing that the APC's loyalists and staunch supporters like Lamist group and others left the party.
Ajadi said Ajimobi did not know he was no longer popular until the result of Oyo South senatorial district election was announced.
He advised Seyi Makinde to learn from the past and honour the terms of negotiation that called for the success of alliance with other opposition parties in the state.
