- Osinbajo, however, mourned those who lost their lives during the general elections

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has advised the members of All Progressives Congress (APC) not to relax or slack ahead of the March 23 governorship rerun election coming up in some states.

The vice president said this during his meeting with APC members at the PMB/PYO Volunteers Appreciation Dinner at the state House Banquet Hall on Thursday, March 14, in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

It should be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fixed the rerun elections in Bauchi, Plateau, Sokoto, Kano, Benue, and Adamawa states after polls there were declared inconclusive.

Osinbajo appreciated the volunteers for the strong commitment and loyalty, while saying the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari was significant.

He said: "I believe that with your support our country will continue to move forward; everything we want for our country will be done, and by the grace of God, every one of the president’s projects will be done. Our economy will turn around and we will see prosperity in this great nation.

“Let me just say that we are still not done with elections. On March 23, we still have some outstanding states; as you know, there are rerun elections in about six states.

“And we still need to put efforts in those six states. We cannot afford to slack up and say the job is done; we still have some things to be done.’’

The vice president also used the occasion to express his condolences to people who lost families and loved ones during the elections, as a asked for a minute silence for them.

Osinbajo also said the present government has achieved much in its first tenure despite the fact that it earned less, an achievement he said was made possible because of the president’s honesty.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Osinbajo on Thursday, March 14, met behind closed doors with some governors from the northern part of the country at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Present at the meeting were the Bauchi state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, and the Adamawa state governor, Jibrila Bindow. The meeting, which held at the vice president’s office, may not be unconnected with the inconclusive polls in the state.
