An accident involving a kerosene tanker marked EFF81XA led to the death of seven persons along the Upper Iweka Road in Onitsha, Anambra state on Wednesday, March 13.
12 others were also injured in the accident which was confirmed by the Anambra State Police Command on Thursday, March 14, Daily Trust reports.
Legit.ng gathers that in a statement, the command’s spokesmen, Haruna Mohammed, said the tanker’s driver knocked down 19 people after losing control along the service lane.
The spokesman said the victims were subsequently rushed to Toronto Hospital Onitsha where seven of them were confirmed dead. Their corpses have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for post-mortem examination.
He added that those who sustained injuries were also being treated at the medical facility.
Mohammed said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the accident. The tanker driver has also been arrested.
The spokesman urged members of the public to visit the hospital for identification, if their relations were missing.
