- APC is allegedly considering choosing Ahmad Lawan as next Senate president
- Lawan, who is from Yobe state, is the incumbent Senate leader
- The ruling party is yet to confirm this or announce its choice for the Senate president seat
The senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may have chosen Senator Ahmad Lawan (Yobe state) as the next Senate president.
According to a report by The Sun, the presidency is not likely to be averse to his choice, considering how he was the party’s preferred choice as Senate president in June 2015.
However, the party is yet to confirm if it is considering Lawan or any other person for the Senate president seat.
APC’s national publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu, said: “We can only do that at either the National Working Committee (NWC) or National Executive Committee (NEC). Neither has held any meeting recently."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, March 13, traded words in the upper chambers of the National Assembly.
The heated exchanges were due to the conduct of the just concluded 2019 general elections.
The disagreements began after a Point of Order raised by Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi, APC), in which he called on the Senate to debate the way and manner the elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the country.

According to him, the debate would place the Senate in a pole position to advice President Muhammadu Buhari appropriately, as well as urge him to sign the amended Electoral Act for better polls in future.
