The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been asked by the Rivers state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Felix Obuah, to declare the state governor, Nyesom Wike, winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.
According to Obuah, based on the results from 26 state constituencies and 14 national assembly seats, the PDP won the election, The Punch reports.
Legit.ng notes that Obuah said: “With the available results so far from the field, I want to assure you that his excellency (Wike) has won overwhelmingly and INEC should not waste time in declaring Governor Nyesom Wike the winner and governor-elect of Rivers State.
“We are not worried about what some people are saying. The truth is that with the results from the field, the incumbent governor should be declared governor-elect.
“Results from all polling units and constituencies where elections were concluded have confirmed and reaffirmed to us that Rivers State is the PDP. The PDP is our way of life in Rivers State.
“With 26 state constituencies already declared for the PDP across the state, it is crystal clear that our governor, his excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has been re-elected by the good people of Rivers State."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the results of Saturday, March 9 gubernatorial election held in Kano state as inconclusive.
The INEC returning officer in the state, Bello Shehu, disclosed this on Monday night, March 11, at the commission's head office in the state.
He added that the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) came third and polled 104,009 votes.
Announcing the results, Shehu said while the PDP candidate polled 1,014,474 votes, Ganduje of the APC scored 987,819 votes leaving a difference of 26,655 votes.
