- The Igbo Movement in Lagos has congratulated Lagos governor-elect, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his victory at the polls, which it said was well deserved
- The movement said it knew that Sanwo-Olu would win the election right from the onset and campaigned for him because of his ability to protect the interest of the Igbos in the state
- The group also expressed belief that the governor-elect will even do better by relying on Tinubu’s template to move Lagos to the next level
The governor-elect for Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been congratulated by the state chapter of the Igbo Movement and urged to hit the ground running from where his predecessors had stopped and live up to his campaign promise of delivering a greater Lagos.
In a statement released on Wednesday, March 13, the movement’s convener, Chris Onyekachi, said Sanwo-Olu campaigned hard across the length and breadth of the state, and deserved his victory, The Guardian reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Onyekachi said the movement believes that the harmonious and peaceful co-existence of all ethnic groups in Lagos would further be improved by the governor-elect.
He said: “We wish him well as he takes the mantle of leadership for the next four years, which will certainly be that of performance.”
He said the Igbo Movement knew that Sanwo-Olu would win the election right from the onset, because of the latter’s pedigree and experience garnered over the years.
Onyekachi said the movement believed in Sanwo-Olu and his ability to take Lagos to another level and protect the interest of the Igbos in the state; and that was why they supported and campaigned for him.
He added: “It is on record that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu laid the foundation for a modern Lagos when he was governor for eight years and took the IGR of the state from a paltry N600 million monthly to N6 billion monthly.
“The administration of former governor Babatunde Fashola followed the blueprint of Tinubu to move Lagos to an enviable height. Also, the current governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, further improved on what was laid down.
“We believe that Sanwo-Olu will even do better by relying on Tinubu’s template to move Lagos to the next level in the area of infrastructure development.”
