David De Gea's quest of becoming Manchester United's highest paid player has taken another twist as the club may not be ready to grant him his wish.

The Spanish shot-stopper's contract will end next summer and the Red Devils wants the issue solved before the new season begins.

According to the Evening Standard, United are refusing to hand the 28-year-old his demands to become the club's top earner.

The Old Trafford outfit are only willing to offer the Spaniard £350,000 which is lower than Alexis Sanchez's £505,000 per week, but the wages will make him the highest paid goalie in the world.

De Gea has been the most consistent player since joining the club in 2011 and he has won Man United player of the season, four times in the last five years.

He has featured in all 30 matches in the Premier League but has conceded more goals, saving less and making more errors this season.

De Gea's clean sheet percentage, minutes per goal conceded, save percentage and minutes per error leading to goal have all taken a hit compared to his overall averages.

Remarkably, in 267 Premier League appearances, he has made just eight errors leading to goals but two of those have been this season - including Granit Xhaka's swerving last weekend shot at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea on Monday evening, March 11, tried to put his side's defeat against Arsenal behind him by going out for dinner with Herrera and Juan Mata.

The 28-year-old Spain international headed to an Italian restaurant in Hale a day after conceding two goals against the Gunners at Emirates stadium.
