Police arraign PDP governorship agent, 3 others over alleged electoral misconduct

- Uche Onyeaguocha, PDP governorship agent in Imo, has been arraigned in an Owerri chief magistrates’ court over alleged electoral misconduct

- Onyeaguocha was arraigned with Steve Asimobi, Paschal Onwukaike and Oliver Enwerenem

- Chief Magistrate R.O. Nworka, however, admitted the defendants to bail on self recognition

The police on Tuesday, March 12, arraigned a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship agent in Imo Uche Onyeaguocha and three others in an Owerri chief magistrates’ court over alleged electoral misconduct.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that others arraigned with Onyeaguocha are Steve Asimobi, Paschal Onwukaike and Oliver Enwerenem.

The police charged the defendants with ten counts bordering on disorderly conduct during election, destruction of election materials, disrupting of election process and destruction of INEC result sheet.

Chief Magistrate R.O. Nworka admitted the defendants to bail on self recognition, after considering a bail application moved by Onyeaguocha’s lead lawyer Loius Alozie (SAN).

Onyeaguocha, a former House of Representative member was arrested by security agents on Sunday after allegedly destroying Ideato South LGA result sheet at the INEC office.

His action however led to temporal suspension of announcement of governorship result by the returning officer Francis Atunta, Vice Chancellor Michael Opkara University of Agriculture.

Onyeaguocha said his action was to defend democracy and to liberate Imo people from perpetual bondage.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that collation of results from the 2019 gubernatorial election in Imo state came to an abrupt end in the early hours of Monday, March 11, as PDP agent tore result sheets during the collation exercise.

The collation of results which was going on at the INEC collation center in Owerri, the state capital, ended abruptly following a clash between agents of leading political party agents in the state.

Trouble started when PDP agent said that the result of Ideato South local government area would not be announced.
