The Argentine football star had amazing run thereby beating two defenders before being brought down in the penalty box.
Messi's teammates called for a spot-kick after the Argentine fell down but he stood up to tell the match official that the tackle was legitimate.
Barcelona went on to win the Spanish La Liga encounter, but it was what Messi did that got supporters talking though with one claiming 'Messi is the only one keeping it real'.
Win over Rayo also stretched Barcelona's unbeaten run to 14 games this season and re-established their seven-point lead at the top of La Liga.
