Kano state officials nabbed for allegedly attempting to steal INEC result sheets

- Two high-ranking officials of the Kano state government were on Monday, March 11, arrested by the police

- The officials, Murtala Sule Garo and Lamin Sani, were arrested for allegedly trying to steal results sheets at the gubernatorial and state Assembly polls

- DSP Haruna Abdullahi, the police spokesman said that investigation into the development is already underway

Murtala Sule Garo, the commissioner for local government of Kano and Lamin Sani the chairman of Nasarawa local government of the state have been arrested by the police for allegedly trying to steal the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s result sheets.

DSP Haruna Abdullahi, the police spokesman in the state revealed that Garo and Sani were nabbed at the area's collation centre for the governorship and state Assembly polls as they reportedly tried to make away with the results sheets, adding that they also made moves to destroy the document

He said: “While his Excellency the Deputy Governor of Kano State Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna was rescued from the scene, who was on an inspection.”

The police spokesman further said that investigation into the incident is already underway and assured the public that those involved in the crime will surely be brought to justice. He urged the electorate to maintain calmness and order as INEC was ready to proceed with polls results.

He said: “The command is putting it clear to all and sundry that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be allowed to finish Collating the results and declare authentic winners before any celebrations.”

“This is to maintain peace and harmony and do away with any incident of accident and breach of peace.”

“Any person or persons that engage in such celebrations leading to breach of peace will be arrested and prosecuted as provided by the law.“

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that there was drama on Saturday, March 9 as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, Abba Yusuf, and the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, both cast their votes at the same polling unit. Yusuf and Abbas both voted at Unit 001, Chiranci Ward, Gwale area council.

Legit.ng gathered that trouble started when Yusuf’s supporters began cheering as he arrived to cast his vote. The development subsequently allegedly led to the candidate being stoned by APC supporters.
