Popular writer Chimamanda Adichie has always been known to be one to freely express her feminist thoughts and opinions. The admirable public speaker recently had a chitchat with CNN. In reference to her strong beliefs, she challenged women to wear what they want to wear.
According to her, it is important for women to live life on their own terms without having to think of what anyone thought of them.
The lady emphasized that women do not have to do what people wanted them to do. In fact, they could wear whatever it is they want to wear.
Although she meant this outright statement as a joke, she seriously felt the need to affect women with that feeling of self-confidence and self-motivation needed to express themselves.
Chimamanda Adichie talked about her experience as a growing youth. According to her, when she was younger, she had felt the need to impress people with her actions.
Now that she is 41, she feels that all the energy she had expended on thinking of what others thought of her could have been invested in better endeavours.
See the post below:
"Wear what you want to wear. I say that as kind of a joke. But in a larger sense, I think it would be, don't think you have to do what people want you to do.
"Increasingly, in part of growing older for me, I'm 41, and when I was 30, when I was 27, I think I was a lot more invested in kind of thinking about what people expected and what people wanted. And I think it's mentally exhausting to do that. And, you take away from yourself, the energy that you could have used to do things that are actually meaningful to you.
"Now, I feel old and wise and I would say to that younger version of myself, and actually I'll say also to young women all over the world to, it's so important not to think that you have to perform for somebody else. It's really important to, what I like to call own yourself."
