Federal Government delegates set for atomic energy expo in Russia
- Federal Government officials are billed to participate in the 11th edition of ATOMEXPO - an international forum
- The Nigerian government will be represented by officials of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency and the Atomic Energy Commission
- Nigeria and Russia had earlier signed an inter-governmental agreement with the aim of constructing a center for nuclear science in Nigeria
Federal Government officials are billed to participate in the 11th edition of ATOMEXPO - an international forum which seeks global partnerships on peaceful uses of atomic energy.
Billed to hold in the Russian city of Sochi, the event will run from Monday, April 15 to Tuesday, April 16.
Officials of Nigeria’s Nuclear Regulatory Agency and the Atomic Energy Commission are billed to participate and represent the country.

During the 2016 edition of the expo, Nigeria and Russia signed an inter-governmental agreement with the aim of constructing a center for nuclear science in Nigeria. This further paved the way for future developments in Nigeria’s quest to diversify its electric energy mix – through the inclusion of nuclear energy to the nation’s electricity grid.
This year's edition of Atom Expo will feature discussions on the contribution of nuclear technologies to sustainable development.
The agenda further covers global issues of carbon-free energy, responsible approach to the environment and natural resources, “green” investments and international partnership for sustainable development.
Round tables and panel discussions will cover topics such as non-energy application of nuclear and radiation technologies in industry, science, medicine and agriculture, distribution of advanced management decisions, and introduction of digital technologies for the development of urban infrastructure and improvement of living standards.
During the forum, guests will be able to find out more about a wide range of nuclear technology applications.

Meanwhile, inspired by the need to nurture the next generation of nuclear technology experts, ROSATOM - Russia's state-run nuclear energy corporation, is set to train young Nigerians on nuclear energy.
The firm recently announced that applications are now open for scholarships in nuclear studies for Nigerian and African students at large.
Underscoring the rationale for the scholarship scheme, Dmitry Shornikov, CEO, ROSATOM Central and Southern Africa, said: “The goal of the scholarship is to support interest in nuclear research and capabilities among young African scientists and engineers, and contribute to solving some of the world's most critical issues in the nearest future, allowing for the continent to be self-sufficient.”
