- Senator Shehu Sani has warned against the use of religion and ethnicity to build discord among Kaduna resident at political campaigns
- The Senator said those fanning the embers of religion in order to gain political advantage are simply setting the stage for crisis in the state
- Sani said some of these clerics have been enlisted and encouraged to incite and instigate adherents of different beliefs against each other
The Senator representing Kaduna central, Shehu Sani, on Monday, March 5, said that the use of religion and ethnicity by the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state must be condemned.
Sani said those fanning the embers of religion in order to gain political advantage are simply setting the stage for crisis in Kaduna state.
The senator, in a statement said there is a systematic effort by the ruling party to exploit and manipulate the religious sensitivities and sensibilities of the Kaduna people to gain political advantage.
Sani said: "Political campaigns has turned into venomous hate speeches, incitement and open call for disorder. Its most unfortunate that those who should champion the cause of peace and unity among our diverse people have chosen to sow seed of discord in order to politically profit from it."
Cautioning religious leaders in the state, Sani said some of these clerics have been enlisted and encouraged to incite and instigate adherents of different beliefs against each other.
"President Buhari, security agencies and the NBC must step in to checkmate these vendors of crisis and their puppeteers. Its hypocritical for leaders to preach peace and unity at one hand and stork the embers of religious and ethnic discontent for political reasons and immediate political gain.
"They want to burn a whole house in order to get hold of a rodent. Muslim and Christians in the state must resist the temptation of being set against each order for the political survival of the enemies of peace," Sani said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Sani had described extreme celebrations by supporters of politicians across the country as abominable and condemnable.
Tweeting on Tuesday, March 5, shortly after reports emerged that a supporter of President Buhari died from complications caused by drinking drainage water when celebrating the president's victory.
Sani said that drinking poison or dangerous driving to celebrate political victory is not the way the families of the political elites celebrate.
