The president-general of the Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo, has told Igbos residing in Lagos to vote for whoever their hearts accept in the governorship election on March 9.
Nwodo in a recorded video sent to Premium Times on Tuesday, March 5, also distanced the body from the endorsement of the APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, by Solomon Ogbonna, the leader of the Lagos state chapter of the association.
The Ohanaeze president said the association never backed the purported endorsement of Babajide Sanwo-Olu by Ogbonna.
“What he (Mr Ogbonna) did in Ohaneze’s name did not have our backing. We never asked him to pick who the Igbos will vote for in Lagos. He did it a terrible thing, don’t listen to him, listen to your hearts,” Mr Nwodo said in the video in which he spoke Igbo," Nwodo said.
“Both Jimi Agbaje and (Babajide) Sanwo-Olu are good persons, whoever your heart accepts, please vote for him.”
Legit.ng had reported that Solomon Ogbunna, the president Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos state chapter, on Tuesday, March 5, said the group would support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governorship and state Assembly elections on Saturday, March 9.
Ogbunna told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that politics is all about interest, adding that Babajide Sanwo-Olu has demonstrated the desire to protect the Ndigbo interest, if elected as Lagos state governor.
Speaking on the sporadic attack on Igbo during the last presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, he said the APC candidate would protect the Igbo interest better.
