Osinbajo, Tinubu meet Senator Akanbi, rally support for Adelabu, other Oyo APC candidates

- APC has intensified its efforts to retain Oyo state after Saturday, March 9, governorship election

- The leadership of the party has been making efforts to bring back its former members ahead of the election and a former governor of the state, Akala, has promised to support APC's candidate

- Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and APC leader, Bola Tinubu, met with some aggrieved members of the party including a serving senator, Soji Akanbi, who defected to ADC

Ahead of Saturday, March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Oyo state, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the national leader All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have met with Senator Soji Akanbi and other party leaders to rally support for its candidate, Adebayo Adelabu.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the meeting between the APC leaders and Senator Akanbi at the Bourdillion residence of Tinubu in Lagos was part of the moves to bring the former aggrieved members of the party together to brighten Adelabu's chances and other candidates of the party in the forthcoming election.

Legit.ng gathered that Senator Akanbi, who on the APC ticket won election in 2015 to represent Oyo South in the Senate, left the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he secured a ticket for his reelection, after he parted ways with APC, due to his loss of a second term ticket to the incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

It was reported that both Akanbi and Ajimobi, however, lost the February 23 senatorial election at their district to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Kola Balogun.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that barely five days to the governorship election, a faction of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo state reportedly told Tinubu that certain conditions must be met before it could support the ruling party and work for its candidate, Adebayo Adelabu, on Saturday, March 9.

The conditions stated by the leaders of the unity forum in ADC were premised on the undisclosed huge amount of money and dissolution of the executive members at the state level and across the thirty three local governments in Oyo state.
