Inspector General of Police Abubakar Mohammed Adamu is currently having a meeting with commissioners of police from the 36 states of the federation including the FCT in preparation for the forthcoming gubernatorial and House of Assemblies elections.
Reports by Daily Sun claimed that the meeting which is taking place at the IGP’s conference room is also believed to review the state of security in the past presidential and National Assembly elections.
It was learnt that the under-utilization of the Technical Intelligence Unit of the force, general security in the country, amongst others would also be discussed in the meeting.
The security personnel at the meeting include all the deputy Inspectors General of police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), and other senior officers.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported that IGP Adamu said he will restrategise to tackle the problem of insecurity in the country. He spoke shortly after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessor, Ibrahim Idris, in Abuja on Tuesday, January 15. He said he would stick by the rules in directing the affairs of the nation.
On the 2019 elections, the new police chief assured that it will be free and fair and that the right things will be done.
He had also urged Nigerian electorate to put their fears aside and vote during the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday, February 23.
The police boss warned voters to stay away from ballot box snatching and other crimes, especially during the polls.
