Manchester United to miss Champions League next season if Arsenal or Chelsea win Europa

- Manchester United could miss next season's Champions League even if they finish fourth in the Premier League this season

- United will have to play in the Europa League if Chelsea or Arsenal should win the 2018/19 Europa League title

- Four teams are expected to play in the UCL from England and any team that win the Europa get automatic ticket regardless of how the club finish in EPL

Manchester United are now on the verge of missing next season's Champions League competition even if they finish fourth this season in the Premier League.

This is because of the rules governing the Champions League which only allowed four Premier League teams to participate in the tournament every year.

Currently, Manchester United are occupying fifth position on the Premier League standings, and their hopes is to end in fourth place which will give them Champions League ticket.

The Red Devils must now pray that Arsenal or Chelsea should not win this season's Europa League as the team that win will get automatic qualification for the Champions League.

So should Manchester United finish fourth at the end of the season in the Premier League and Chelsea or Arsenal win Europa, then it means the Old Trafford club will be sent to play in Europa.

But according to the report on UK Sun, England could have five teams in the Champions League next season, and that will be if UEFA should change or examine their rules.

In 2012, Tottenham were fourth but were pushed into the Europa League after Chelsea beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena to lift the Europa League title.

Chelsea as holders however took Spurs' place as countries were only allowed four representatives.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Premier League giants Manchester United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjær as their new manager until the end of the ongoing 2018/19 Premier League season.

The 45-year-old Norwegian football manager replaces former manager Jose Mourinho who was thrown out of the club because of poor results.

He was joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, together with Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna this season at Old Trafford.
