Former Super Eagles captain Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha has revealed that he learnt about his arrest orders on the pages of newspapers.
The 45-year-old was recently accused of deliberately evading tax after which a Lagos court issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
According to Guardian.ng, the ex-Premier League midfielder star was charged to court by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice on a three-count charge, on failure to give account of return of income.
Okocha, while reacting to the news told Guardian that: "I only read about it on the pages of newspapers. No one contacted me.
"As a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I know very well that nobody is above the law. But honestly speaking, I was never contacted by anybody on issues before the court order."
The former Bolton of England midfielder, and member of Super Eagles squad to Tunisia ’94 and Atlanta ’96 Olympics, however hinted that the issue had been settled.
“It has been settled, but I won’t be able to give you details,” he stated.

The former Bolton Wanderers and PSG midfielder was first charged to court on June 6, 2017 by prosecutor, Dr. Jide Martins.
But the case came up for the first time on October 5, 2017 but the defendant (Okocha) did not appear in court and this led to several adjournments before he urged the court to issue a bench warrant.
Meanwhile, Justice Adedayo Akintoye has adjourned the case till April 15 so as to allow the law enforcement agents carry out the arrest. for further hearing.
Okocha scored 14 times in over 70 appearances for the national team within 1993 and 2006. winning one AFCON gold medal (1994), one silver and three bronze medals.
He was also crowned the Premier League player of the month in November 2003 for his impressive display for his former club Bolton Wanderers among several other individual awards.
Legit.ng earlier reported that an arrest warrant has been issued for former Nigerian captain Austin Okocha over tax evasion issues.
According to Premium Times, the former Nigerian international has deliberately failed to appear before the court to answer allegations on why he failed to pay his income taxes.
Judge Adedayo Akintoye issued the warrant for the arrest of the former Bolton Wanderers skipper on January 29, and thereafter adjourned until February 19.
