Following President Muhammadu Buhari's victory in the presidential election of Saturday, February 23, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said he was not sure of who would coast home to victory.

He said: “For those analysts who have been active since 1999 in his fourth republic, this is the most keenly contested election and my joy is that first, in the electioneering season, given all issues about security in Nigeria, there is no incident of terrorists attack except one or so in maybe Yobe or somewhere. That for me, to God be the glory.

“The second is people who had predicted that Nigerians are going to fight, are going to war and that we are preparing for a Second World War. I am sure again, they have been put to shame.

“I know that Nigerians believe in their country, we appreciate our friends but we also know that those friends will never accept us as citizens of their country. The only country we cannot be deported, the only country we don’t need visa to stay, no matter who you are, no matter what you do, is Nigeria.

“It is the only home we can truly call our own. Even for those who have multiple passports of various nationality, because their real country is Nigeria. I think for me on behalf of my party, we congratulate the people of Nigeria for the enthusiasm they showed in spite of postponement that appears to have even reinvigorated and renewed their determination to come and vote, and they voted very peacefully."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the Saturday, February 23 presidential election and asked Atiku Abubakar and other candidates to accept defeat in good faith.

The labour congratulated the president in a statement on Wednesday, February 27, by its president, Ayuba Wabba.

The union also congratulated other candidates for their participation and urged them to adhere to the peace accord they signed before the election.

It said: “The Nigeria Labour Congress wishes to congratulate Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, being the second person to get re-elected since the return to civilian rule twenty years ago.
