- The Arewa Consultative Forum has urged Atiku Abubakar to concede defeat and congratulate President Buhari on his victory at the polls
- The ACF said such concession would be in the overall interest of Nigeria and would place Atiku among global democrats
- The forum also congratulated Buhari and saluted Atiku for his courage and impressive performance
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded presidential election, has been urged by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to accept the will of the people by conceding defeat and congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory.
The forum made the call in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, in Kaduna on Wednesday, February 27, Daily Trust reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the group advised Atiku, whom it described as a committed democrat who cherishes peaceful democratic transition, to concede defeat since there’s evidence that the elections were generally peaceful, free and fair.
The ACF said: “Such concession on the part of the main challenger would be in the overall interest of Nigeria and place him among global democrats.”
The forum further implored other contestants to congratulate their opponents and be magnanimous in accepting defeat. It also urged Nigerians to demonstrate the same spirit and commitment in the forthcoming governorship and state Assembly elections slated for March 9.
The ACF congratulated Buhari on his victory at the polls and saluted Atiku for his courage and impressive performance, and for putting up a gallant fight.
It called on the president to ensure that his administration keeps to its promise of strengthening the nation’s unity so that no section or group is left behind or left out.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar rejected the result of the election won by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Atiku, who had kept mute since Monday, February 25, when the results showed that he was going to be the loser, described the election as a sham.
The former vice president said if he had lost in a free and fair election, he would have called the victor within seconds of being aware of his victory to offer his congratulations.
