Hundreds from the 12 local government areas of Imo west senatorial district have protested against what they described as the alleged role the army played in helping Governor Rochas Okorocha emerge as Imo west senator-elect.
Vanguard reports that the women on Wednesday, February 27, decided to take their protest to the 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, to register their displeasure about the alleged army’s role in the declaration of Okorocha as Imo west senator-elect.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)'s returning officer in Imo West senatorial district, Innocent Ibeawuchi, claimed that he was threatened by thugs to announce Governor Okorocha as winner of the senatorial poll in the district.
Ibeawuchi, who spoke with journalists in Owerri on Monday, February 25, said thugs threatened to kill him after he noticed rigging in the state and refused to continue the collation process, Vanguard reports.
The returning officer said Governor Okorocha also stormed the collating centre to intimidate him into declaring him the winner.
