We did not know we were walking into an ambush - Akpabio’s ex-aide says

- Former aide to ex-governor Godswill Akpabio his reacted to his former boss' loss in the just concluded National Assembly election in Akwa Ibom

- INEC declared Chris Ekpenyong of PDP winner of the Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial district election

- In reaction, Ikiddeh called on people to respect INEC’s announcement on the election but said the battle was not over yet

Ata Ikiddeh, a former aide to Godswill Akpabio, says what happened to the Akwa Ibom senator in the just concluded general election was an ambush.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, February 26, in Uyo declared Chris Ekpenyong of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial district election.

“It has been a gruelling and bloody battle, we contested open minded not knowing we were walking into an ambush,” Ikiddeh said on Facebook on Tuesday, February 26, in a message to Akpabio’s friends and supporters.

Ikiddeh who served Akpabio as a special assistant on diaspora affairs when the latter was governor asked the people to brace themselves for the battle ahead, saying: "Brace yourselves brethren for the battle which must come in two weeks. Because never was so much owed to so many by the multitude of the willing.

According to him, those who think they have killed Senator Akpabio politically have just enlarged him beyond anything himself or his enemies could have ever imagined.

Ikiddeh called on people to respect INEC’s announcement on the election but said the battle was not over yet. “We are winning the war,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Godswill Akpabio petitioned the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state over the results of the elections in the Akwa Ibom Northwest district.

The senator, in the petition, dated Tuesday, February 23, and signed by his brother, Ibanga Akpabio, said: “We demand querying of card reader/recount of votes from all 10 local government areas of Ikot Ekpene senatorial district. We call on INEC to fix a date for a rerun election in Obot Akara and announce the Essien Udim results."
