Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte are set to miss four matches for Manchester City during their crucial battle for the Premier League title.

Both midfielder and defender pick respective muscle injuries in the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Guardiola who rates both players high said he will be hoping for their return soon after Gabriel Jesus and John Stones made their return.

“We were already without John Stones and Gabriel Jesus. Now it’s Dinho and Aymer. Hopefully after the international break they will return. I think John and Gabriel are coming back soon. The other two, hopefully the Swansea game, or after the international break.”

The Citizens will face West Ham, Bournemouth and Watford in the league before playing their last 16 second leg Champions League clash with Schalke before the quarter final fixture against Swnasea.

And with the array of stars in City's squad, Guardiola has suggested players who will fit into Fernandinho's role.

“Danilo can play there, we can play Ilkay Gündogan, Fabian Delph and I think Oleks Zinchenko can play in that position, too. So we can play with two players. Kevin De Bruyne can play there. We’re going to find the right decision that hopefully works. Dani played for Santos in that position, so he knows a little bit.”

With 11 games left to play this season and with just one point behind Liverpool on the table. Guardiola has told his players he will not tolerate any excuses for failure.

“I don’t want to see excuses about tiredness, fixtures, schedules or how many games,” Guardiola said ahead Wednesday’s home game against West Ham.

“That is nothing. When you have the dream to fight until the end, to retain the title, the power and the energy to give you that, it is higher than any excuses you can find.

“We have to run and beat them, and after that beat them again. In the last two months mentality makes the difference. People say about this player or the other one. It doesn’t matter [who plays]. We have a deep squad, we have good enough players, a second team too.

“I want to see the desire that we really want to win this title. I want to see it. I don’t care about the way we want to play or the other things. I want the smell in the locker room. I want to smell in the beginning of the game, during the game, with our fans, now when one competition is over, really we want to win this title. I want to see their faces tomorrow. After the game I’ll tell you if I saw something special or not.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Oleksandr Zinchenko was not allowed to lift the Carabao Cup by his Man City teammates following his reputation for handling the trophies.

The Ukraine international had a pretty decent game as Pep Guardiola's men retained the trophy for the second year following shoot-out win over Chelsea.
