Nigerians react to declaration of Buhari as president

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won his re-election bid with a wide margin of 15,191,847 votes over Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his major opponent, who polled 11,267,978 votes.

Following the announcement by INEC, Nigerians have taken to social media to share their reactions.

Some of the reactions were of great joy while others could not hide how hurt they were about the re-election.

Basma, a twitter user, could not contain her happiness immediately Buhari was announced the president-elect.

Some twitter users based the president's victory on God's intervention, while others applauded the director general of Buhari's campaign council, Rotimi Amaechi for a good job done.

This one is thanking Allah for the victory.

He emerged winner against all odds.

A twitter user with the handle @prof_tayo called the president a spiritual phenomenon, while another person called him Mr Integrity.

A twitter user by name Chief Marcus, however, humorously threw in Canada into the whole conversation as the best place to run to now that Buhari is the president-elect, while another said she is planning on resettling.

However, not all praised his re-election. A Facebook user invited God into the matter.

He was also quickly reminded that he is the president of the nation and not the president of his political party, APC.

The re-election did not totally go well according to some as they could let out their frustration.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that as results of the general elections kept pouring in from the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Dele Momodu called on Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accept defeat.

Momodu made the call on his twitter page on Tuesday, February 26, asking the PDP presidential candidate not to waste any time in congratulating President Buhari on his re-election.
