The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, February 26, declared President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the presidential election in Zamfara state, having scored a total of 438,682 votes.
President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 125,423 votes.
The statistics of the presidential election in the state as released by the electoral body is as follows:
Total No: Reg Voters: 1,717,128
Total No: of Accredited: 616,168
Total Votes Cast: 597,224
Total Valid Votes: 578,439
Rejected Votes: 18,785
Votes were cancelled in some places due to over-voting and card reader problems. Insecurity also did not permit voting to take place in certain areas in the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that INEC had declared Governor Abdula’ziz Yari of Zamfara as winner of the state's senatorial election which was held on Saturday, February 23.
Legit.ng gathered that the district comprised six local government areas of Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata-Mafara.

As he announced the results in Tatala-Mafara on Monday, February 25, the INEC returning officer, Professor Lawal Mayanchi, said that Yari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 153,626 votes, while Alhaji Lawal Hassan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 69,293 votes.
