Election 2019: Ekweremadu’s opponent suffering from post-defeat nightmare, says PDP

Election 2019: Ekweremadu’s opponent suffering from post-defeat nightmare, says PDP

The Enugu West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organisation has dismissed as post-defeat hallucination the allegation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, that the PDP and Senator Ike Ekweremadu, denied her victory through alleged rigging, vote buying, thuggery, and ballot snatching.

This was contained in a statement sent to Legit.ng by the director-general of the Enugu West PDP campaign organization, Honourable Okey Ozoani, on Tuesday, February 26.

He said Ekweremadu never took her seriously as “she was a non-starter and an unknown quantity.”

His words: “Much as we have no issues with the decision of our sister, Mrs. Ibekaku-Nwagwu, to actualise her senatorial ambition in her place of birth rather than her place of marriage outside Enugu state, her abysmally poor knowledge of Enugu West, misalignment with the challenges and aspirations of our people, coupled with her incurable quarrelsomeness, promotion of thuggery and blackmail, nd lack of respect for elders and distinguished sons and daughters of Enugu West make her unelectable.

“However, it is not our wish to join issues with her over her rants, as she pitiably suffers from nightmare over her humiliating defeat.

“A chronic attention seeker, Ibekaku-Nwagwu could never have been a match for the Deputy Senate President, even if had chosen to snore in his bed, holiday abroad or cede 50 per cent of votes cast to her ahead of the last weekend election.

“Her request to members of the public, rather than APC accredited polling and collation agents, to send information and evidences of election malpractices against Ekweremadu, the same man that piloted several constitution amendments and electoral reforms that greatly improved Nigeria’s electoral system, clearly shows that she is a malicious rumour manufacturer and peddler.

"It also shows why her fallacious claims are at variance with the views of local and international observers and journalists on the said election.

The PDP chieftain said it was unfortunate that while Ekweremadu and PDP are making history, “Mrs. Ibekaku-Nwagwu is busy making hysteria.”

Ibekaku-Nwagwu, a former special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on justice reform, had alleged that Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Enugu state were fraught with irregularities and outright hijacking of ballot boxes and ballot papers.

According to her, apart from the non-use of smart card readers, there was indiscriminate thumb printing of ballot papers by individual who disguised as Independent National Electoral Commission officials, adding that there was also vote buying.
