Oluremi Tinubu retains Lagos central senatorial seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, February 25, declared Senator Oluremi Tinubu winner of February 23 election in Lagos Central senatorial district.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the returning officer, Oyeyemi Oyedola of the University of Lagos, said Tinubu of the APC polled 131,735. She defeated Onitiri David of the PDP who scored 89,107 votes.

Oyedola said: "l, Professor Oyeyemi Elijah Oyedola, hereby certify that as the retuning officer, Lagos central senatorial district with the election held on 23 of February, 2019 that the election was contested among 14 candidates.

“I declare that Tinubu Oluremi Shade of the APC has satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 131,735 votes."

The INEC electoral officer in Lagos Island, Sodiq Abubakar, lauded the security agents for their support towards ensuring free, fair and credible election.

Abubakar said that no causality was recorded during the period of the election and urged the stakeholders to keep it up.

The election was conducted in five local government areas namely; Lagos Island, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Surulere and Mainland.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the INEC declared the APC as the winner for all the contested positions in the presidential and National Assembly elections in Lagos East senatorial district.

Aaron Akinloye, INEC returning officer for the House of Representatives poll for Epe federal constituency, Lagos state, declared the result on Sunday, February 24, at INEC’s collation centre in Epe.

According to him, Wale Raji of APC, who represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, was returned as winner. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that with the result Raji has won his second term bid.

According to Akinloye, the APC candidate polled 18,327 votes to beat his closest PDP rival who got 13,318 votes. Others were APP 61 votes, ADC 42 votes and AD 49 out of the 32,415 total votes cast.
