- The APC has retained the Sabongari federal constituency in Kaduna
- The party’s candidate, Garba Datti-Babawo, polled 52,817 votes
- The PDP candidate came second with 27,571 votes
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has retained the House of Representatives seat of Sabongari federal constituency of Kaduna state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Announcing the results at the INEC office in Sabongari on Monday, February 25, the returning officer, Prof. Abdullahi Idris-Yunusa, said Garba Datti-Babawo of APC scored 52,817 votes to defeat other contestants.
The returning officer said that Bashir Ibrahim-Sakadadi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 27,571 votes while other parties trailed behind.
He said: "I, Prof. Abdullahi Idris-Yunusa, the Returning Officer of Sabongari federal constituency certified that the election was conducted fairly and peacefully in the area.
"Garba Datti-Babawo, having polled highest number of votes and satisfied all the requirements of the law is hereby returned as a duly elected member of House of Representatives for Sabongari."
Idris-Yunusa lauded the people of the constituency for the decorum, understanding and resilience which led to the success of the exercise.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has won Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 10 out of the 44 local government areas of Kano state.

Kano is the strong base of the president, however, Atiku pulled a huge crowd during his campaign there some weeks ago as the Sani Abachi stadium venue was filled to the brim.
But at the end of collation of results by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 10 local government areas, Buhari won them all.
